Review: BlackBerry Bold 9700



The new Blackberry Bold is one of the latest handsets from Blackberry. The Bold 9700 provides an expansive range of functions all of which are useful in their own right. The name Blackberry has become a name that is synonymous with communications whilst on the move and this handset delivers just that. It measures 109 mm by 60 mm and is 14 mm thick. It weighs 122 grams in weight and is stylish and comfortable to use.

The phones 2.44 inch TFT display screen is able to display 65,000 colours at a pixel size of 480 x 360 pixels, which means in real terms its imagery is vivid and vibrant. As is customary with any Blackberry phone, a full QWERTY keyboard is provided which takes up the remaining space on the front face. The keyboard of the Blackberry Bold 9700 is responsive to touch and simple to use. The addition of a touch sensitive optical trackpad offers means of accessing functionality.

Connectivity is provided by GPRS, EDGE, Blue tooth and micro USB, which ensures the phone is able to be connected to multiple devices whilst on the move. The HSDPA and Wi-Fi offers internet access at high speeds and with the advantage of being able to use nationally available hot spots.

The camera provided with this handset is a 3.15 mega pixel camera which has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Auto focus and image stabilization are also included which helps the user to take effective images, whilst the inclusion of an LED flash provides illumination wherever required. The camera also doubles up as a video recorder, to offer the alternative if desired, to static images.

Entertainment is provided by the media player and video player, both of which will play the majority of file types including MP3, MP4, WMA and DivX. Satellite navigation is provided by the GPS navigation which also comes with Blackberry maps.

The Blackberry 9700 Bold much like the Blackberry Storm2 but without the touch screen, is a competent communication device. It utilises a 624 MHz processor and the expected Blackberry operating system which is version 5.0. It offers an excellent handset with a multitude of features and is an excellent addition to the range from this renowned brand.
